Photo tips

A clear photo is the place to start. A phone photo is fine if your pet is well lit and in focus.

What to look for

Bright light. Choose a photo where you can clearly see your pet's face.
Sharp eyes. Check that the eyes and face are in focus.
Room around the head. Keep the whole head and both ears in the frame. Leave room around the tail if it's part of the picture.
The original photo. Upload the photo file, rather than a screenshot. Skip heavy filters.

For pets with dark fur

Choose a well-lit photo where you can see the eyes and details in the fur. A lighter background can help your pet stand out. Avoid a photo where the face disappears into shadow.

Keep the focus on your pet

Choose a simple, bright photo with clear contrast between your pet and the background. Clear faces and a simple background work best.
